Emergency Medicine, Hospital Administration & EMTALA Compliance
Dual-boarded in emergency and internal medicine, bringing 37 years of clinical perspective to the intersection of acute stabilization and chronic disease management. As Professor Emeritus and former Department Chair at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, he provides high-level forensic analysis of the standard of care grounded in four decades of frontline experience and academic leadership.
His forensic work centers on time-sensitive diagnoses — sepsis, pulmonary embolism, aortic dissection, myocardial infarction, stroke and intracranial hemorrhage — as well as emergency department systems including triage errors, EMTALA compliance and inter-facility transfer protocols, plus corporate and administrative negligence, peer review and clinical governance.
A distinct cornerstone of his practice is expertise in Epic ASAP EHR audit trails. Since 2016 he has led institutional Epic governance, allowing him to decipher electronic health record metadata to establish the timing of clinical decisions, documentation integrity and the "digital standard of care" that often defines modern malpractice litigation.
With over 45 peer-reviewed publications in journals including JAMA and Annals of Emergency Medicine, he specializes in translating intricate clinical data and hospital policy into persuasive, easy-to-understand evidence. He received the 2022 Excellence in Health Care Award from the United Hospital Fund and served as Director of the Cardiac Evaluation Unit for 28 years.
